How To Choose The Perfect Foundation?

How To Choose The Perfect Foundation?

Foundation is as customizable as your favorite Starbucks order, with a wide range of colors, finishes, and coverage levels. That’s why it’s one of the most difficult makeup products to come by.

So here are the basics you need to know when selecting a foundation, according to your skin type.

If your combination or oily

For combination or oily skin types, the cream is the way to go. Foundation provides good coverage for blemishes and redness that the oiliness of the skin brings out, but remember that it can also make your face appear shinier and oiler if the product you’re using is too heavy.

Powder foundation, rather than compact or liquid, will mattify your skin without adding shine and oil and double as a setting powder for bronzer and highlighter. For best results:

-Use a primer before applying makeup to prevent any sebum build-up.

-Wait about five minutes for the primer to settle into your skin before applying foundation.

-Use a damp sponge or clean fingers to pat foundation onto your skin, rather than brushing it on with a dry brush.

If you’re acne-prone

Oiliness causes breakouts and sets off flares of redness, but dryness is no less of an enemy. If your skin is prone to acne, you have to find the perfect balance between hydration and oil absorbency in your foundation.

Because powder foundations are notorious for being drying, staying away from them is the best way to combat this issue. The liquid foundation dries quickly, so apply it in a thin layer with a damp sponge, and finish it with a light dusting of powder to set the foundation in place.

If you have acne, don’t use concealer under your eyes because that area is already prone to dryness. Instead, use an eye cream after applying foundation.

If you’re sensitive

Sensitive skin is the worst skin type to deal with because allergies and sensitivities can surface at any moment. If you’re out buying foundation, don’t test it on your wrist like everyone else does because that area of skin is more sensitive than your face. You should take a trip to the dermatologist for allergy tests to help discern what’s causing your reactions to different products.

And if you have no idea what’s causing that itchy, patchy skin, test the product on another part of your body for a few days before applying any makeup to avoid accidental breakouts. If you’re still not sure, go to our training courses and ask them to help find a foundation suited for sensitive skin.

If you have dry or mature skin

For those of you who have dry, mature skin, it’s best to just go to a professional makeup artist for the right foundation. Skin that’s too irritated from cold weather and wind exposure can also be a problem when using foundation because your face is more likely to sting frequently.

Conclusion:

In both cases, you can either go for a foundation with minimal coverage to avoid irritating the skin further or use a tinted moisturizer that will hydrate and protect your skin well. Some people just skip foundation altogether and opt to use concealer instead.
