Bullying and harassment are very serious problems in the workplace, school, and even online. It is vital to know what forms of bullying or harassment are occurring so that you can protect yourself. The term bullying is often used and abused in today’s culture. Bullying can come in many forms: physical, verbal, emotional, and cyber. There are many stories floating around about how children were bullied online while playing video games on their Xbox or Playstations. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, harassment is “the act of systematic and/or continued unwanted and annoying actions of one party or a group, including threats and demands.” Harassment can be used as another word for bullying. For example, if someone spends all day at work telling you how lazy you are, this would be considered harassment.

The workplace is one of the most frequent locations for bullying or harassment to take place.  Sometimes people are bullied because they do not fit into the company culture or they simply have a different background than their coworkers. Other reasons why employees are bullied in the workplace include not being liked by a certain person, disagreeing on a topic with others, making mistakes at work, or simply because someone does not like their personality. Bullying and harassment can also happen when it comes to race, age, disability status, etc.

Harassment can happen because of someone’s race, disability status, ethnicity, age, etc. If you are being harassed at work it is important to talk to your boss and figure out a way that they can stop it.

Bullying and harassment can also take place at school. Children often tell stories about how other children embarrass them in front of the class or spread rumors about a certain person. Bullying can also happen to adults that are going back to finish their high school degree, only to be harassed by other students because they have a different background than everyone else. In addition to this, bullying and harassment can also happen when it comes to gender.

Harassing Students: 

Since students are often the ones who do the bullying and harassing, it is important to look for ways that we can protect ourselves from them. If you are a student and want to report someone for bullying or harassment there are many things that exist to help you with this. Many school boards have websites that allow you to report an issue anonymously.


 If you feel uncomfortable about reporting the incident, try looking for student support groups in your school or at your local community center.
